Visual Squash – Integration Technique
To use with conflict, identifying positive intentions, blending, and integrating. It can be used with conflict or ambivalence. For instance even the most together people, have parts that are in conflict with each other, and this technique allows them to integrate the two.
Examples: Firmness/Leniency, Controlling/Passive, Wants to eat/wants to be slender, Wants to succeed/wants to be loved, wants to be taken care of/wants to be independent, and finally wants to be spontaneous/wants to live by planning & routine.
Unconscious behavior or wanted behavior – how it is useful
Visualize the part that wants you to do the unwanted thing.
Acknowledge what worthwhile thing the unconscious part is trying to fulfill. Positive function.
